"Last Days in Boone"
This piece is a meditative representation of the last days spent at our house in Boone, North Carolina. We sold the house after 19 years and this was the last weekend before we had to be out due to the sale. This house was a wonderful place for our son to grow up but not so good for folks nearing retirement age. So a tough decision had to be made to sell and move to an environment more "user" friendly. Each dot on the page represents the total days and hours we spent over the 19 years. This was a bittersweet day; as a result I retreated to my drawing. Frame and mat not included. The frame and mat were added for representational purposes only. Shipped in a sleeve with sturdy backing to ensure it reaches you in perfect condition. Shipped through USPS first class mail with tracking and delivery confirmation. Please feel free to contact me with any questions--I will be more than happy to help! When I was young I dreamed of becoming an artist; but like so many aspiring artists I didn't follow my dream but instead went to business school and got an accounting degree. I spent the last 29 years working as a CPA/CFO in the construction and real estate business. Three years ago I started to draw again as a way to relax. My drawings are almost meditative in the metaphysical sense as well as in content and form. I don't start with any particular idea of where the drawing is going. I let my thoughts guide where and how my pen reacts to the paper. I am always surprised with the finished piece.
About the Art
This is a meditational representation of the last days spent in our house in Boone, NC. We had lived in the house for 12 of the last 19 years and vacationed there the last 7 years. Now we were selling the house to start a new chapter in our lives. As I sat in the house, the last days of our tenure on the sofa I had sat on for the last 19 years I started this drawing. This drawing was to reflect my feelings of saddness for leaving a place that I loved so dearly. I counted the days we had lived in the house and then multiplied the days by 24 hours to arrive at a number way in the thousands. I then used the stippling technque to make dots that represented each hour spent in these beautiful North Carolina mountains. If you look closely you will see the many, many dots that represent the hours of my life over the last 19 years.
